Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell remake will make a few changes to the original stealth-action game, according to a recent job post. First spotted by PSU, the post explains that Ubisoft is looking for someone to help “rewrite” and “update” the original Splinter Cell story for a “modern-day audience” — whatever that means. Using the first Splinter Cell game as our foundation we are rewriting and updating the story for a modern-day audience. We want to keep the spirit and themes of the original game while exploring our characters and the world to make them more authentic and believable. As a Scriptwriter at Ubisoft Toronto, you will join the Narrative team and help create a cohesive and compelling narrative experience for a new audience of Splinter Cell fans.

Judging by this description, it sounds like there will be more than a few changes to the 2002 original, even if, for the most part, the story will stay the same in the Splinter Cell remake. Still, it’s hard to say what form the remake will take considering we continue to know so little about it.

Ubisoft announced its Splinter Cell remake late last year, promising a recreation of a story that is now two decades old, now running in the Snowdrop engine. While a narrative rework for modern audiences might raise some eyebrows, it’s worth noting that the publisher has been adamant that its mission is to “respect the goggles,” or stay true to the franchise’s history. So, Creative Director Chris Auty is trying not to lose sight of that original vision while delivering a modern retelling with better visuals and updated gameplay.

Stay tuned for more information on the Splinter Cell remake.
