8 Good Reasons To Dust Off Your PS2

Sony’s PS2 turns 14 today, so let’s celebrate with eight of the best PS2 exclusives. There are over 800 of them, so we may have missed your favorites, but here are just a small list of some the standouts.

Katamari Damacy was released for the PS2 in 2004. It features you as the Prince, and you have to roll up items to replace lost stars and constellations. It’s quite possibly the best way to waste time on the PS2.

The Playstation exclusive Ico came out in 2001. It was about a boy, Ico, who is trying to escape a castle with Yorda. A sweet tale of a boy with horns growing out of his head.

The Suda 51 game Michigan: Report from Hell is an amazing entry into the survival horror genre. It took videogames to the next level by putting the player in the position of a camera operator. Almost the entire game takes place through his viewfinder.

The game that kickstarted a genre. In 2005 Guitar Hero kick started a genre. It spawned its fair share of sequels and helped Rock Band become a thing.

One of the best fighting games in the history of fighting has to be the PS2 exclusive Virtua Fighter 4. Released on the console in 2002 it met with some very good critical praise. Plus, it had one of the best tutorials in fighting game history.

The game that launched many other games. Devil May Cry, the first one, came out in 2001 and was basically a horror game in concept but an action game in execution. It has long been considered one of the defining games of the Extreme Combat sub-genre.

Shadow of the Colossus came out in 2005 from the same team that brought us Ico. The game that did away with all of those annoying NPCs and just gave us the bosses. Pretty gutsy, but paid off in the end.

Many of us have never raced down the slopes on a snowboard, but we have shredded quite a bit of the powder in SSX. This game took you off of the couch and down some pretty terrifying slopes. It pays off, especially considering how expensive it is to do the real thing.
