8 Old Monster Movies You Absolutely Must See

Sometimes the best old movies get forgotten or go unwatched. We can’t put them all in here, but we can certainly give you eight stand-outs.

In 1954 Godzilla, or Gojira, was released. He took Tokyo by storm and then the world was obsessed. Spinning off who knows how many movies and parodies, this movie changed the world. Ultimately remember that Godzilla was a baby once. A horribly scary, bone crushing, lonely baby.

Kevin Bacon starred in Tremors, fighting a monster that lives underground and senses vibration. If they breach be very careful, because they will do whatever they can to eat you. The thing that we can all take away from this movie is that guns are the answer to most monster problems.

1931 brought us the James Whale classic Frankenstein. A misunderstood monster roams the countryside looking for some appreciation. Ultimately he should have introduced himself to the neighbors so that they wouldn’t get jumpy. A lesson we should all learn.

Joe Dante’s 1984 classic Gremlins is all about some cute creatures with some crazy handling rules. If you ever get one, they love baths and eating after midnight. Obey these simple rules and you’re guaranteed a great pet.

We can all agree that bugs are aliens from another planet and they really just want to eat our souls. Someone else shares our sentiment and made Them!. A tale of nuclear energy gone wrong, well, gone right if you love giant ants.

The Lon Chaney Jr. classic The Wolf Man featured a man returning to his family’s manor. Only to find that being bitten by a werewolf has some adverse effects. This really should be a CDC training video.

The 80s were a great time for monster movies and 1989’s Pumpkinhead was no exception. This flick focuses on a man and his tragically wounded son who was cut down by disrespectful dirt bikers. If your grandmother made a movie about the downsides of dirt bikes, this is that movie. Also proof that guns are the solution to monster problems.

Quite possibly the scariest movie on this list, Harry and the Hendersons was about a friendly sasquatch that gets befriended by a human family. Hijinks ensue and Harry does some pretty terrifying things to the neighborhood.
