While Disney dumped a lot of new Star Wars shows out during its investor call, there weren’t actually that many details to be gleaned about them. Now, in the following weeks, info has begun to trickle out, and via an interview with Jon Favreau on Good Morning America today, we’ve got a bit of new information on Ahsoka and Rangers of the New Republic.
Favreau began his interview by clarifying that The Book of Boba Fett is a new show, not the third season of The Mandalorian. There had been some confusion over the series after its surprise announcement at the end of the second season of The Mandalorian. Favreau then went on to reveal that The Mandalorian executive producer Dave Filoni will be writing and producing Ahsoka. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as Filoni created the character of Ahsoka on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and turned her into one of the most beloved in the franchise.
Favreau also discussed the upcoming Rangers of the New Republic, saying that he would be running the show. Speaking in vague terms about his Disney+ Star Wars shows, he stated that “all of them take place in a similar timeline here that is right after Return of the Jedi.” Either he misspoke and meant that the shows generally take place after Return of the Jedi, or Ahsoka will be some sort of prequel to The Mandalorian and/or Rangers of the New Republic will occur right after Return of the Jedi. He also spoke broadly about the excitement of getting to continue the stories of characters from Return of the Jedi, but it’s again unclear if he meant characters like Boba Fett or other characters we don’t know about yet (likely both). With the surprise cameo at the end of the season finale of The Mandalorian, anything is possible.
