Assassin’s Creed Infinity Exploring Live-Service, Made by Both Ubisoft Quebec & Montreal

The Assassin’s Creed franchise is moving forward in a new direction with a project codenamed Assassin’s Creed Infinity. Ubisoft officially spoke on the next steps for the franchise at its website, saying that Assassin’s Creed Infinity is a more cohesive, early-in-development project that will see all of its studios engaging in a more collaborative development strategy. Work on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s post-launch content will continue as Ubisoft prepares for this fundamental shift.

“Rather than continuing to pass the baton from game to game, we profoundly believe this is an opportunity for one of Ubisoft’s most beloved franchises to evolve in a more integrated and collaborative manner that’s less centered on studios and more focused on talent and leadership, no matter where they are within Ubisoft,” explained Nathalie Bouchard, Managing Director, Ubisoft Quebec and Christophe Derennes, Managing Director, Ubisoft Montreal.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported on Assassin’s Creed Infinity just prior to the formal Ubisoft announcement today. The project effectively sounds like the franchise’s full move into the live-service model, with Bloomberg sources calling it a “massive online platform that evolves over time.” It will also allegedly feature multiple historical settings, with the foundation to add additional, unique settings interwoven under the game’s umbrella post-launch. For the last decade, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise has given fans one new historically based standalone game every year or two. In theory, it sounds like Ubisoft’s plan is to continue launching core Assassin’s Creed experiences, just with a more unified approach.

The team behind Assassin’s Creed Infinity will include Marc Alexis Côté, one of the founding members of Ubisoft Quebec, as executive producer alongside Ubisoft Montreal’s Étienne Allonier. The Montreal and Quebec locations are working on the project together, with creative talents from both studios stepping in to lead Assassin’s Creed Infinity. Quebec’s Jonathan Dumont, who served as creative director on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, will share the creative director spot with Montreal’s Clint Hocking, who worked on the Splinter Cell series, Far Cry 2, and Watch Dogs: Legion.

Assassin’s Creed Infinity reportedly will not release until 2024 at the earliest, so it’s safe to expect changes to occur between now and then.
