Bioware Has a Plan for The Old Republic End-Game

BioWare says it has a “plan” for the late-game stages of Star Wars: The Old Republic and the truly hardcore players who want to do more once they’ve done it all.

It’s a wall that every serious MMOG player has hit: The level cap. You’ve maxed out your fighter, you’ve maxed out your mage, you’ve maxed out your thief, and as you ponder the viability of a half-kobold paladin, you realize that you’ve reached the plateau that represents every game developer’s worst nightmare: You’re bored.

But there’s no need to worry about that in The Old Republic, according to BioWare’s James Ohlen, because the famed RPG studio has a plan to do things a little differently. “Don’t worry, it’s not like we’re ignoring [the end game]. We have a lot of hardcore MMO players who have like five level 80 WoW characters, so it’s not like we don’t have the knowledge of what we need to do in terms of the elder game and other aspects of our game,” he told IncGamers.

“I know some people are worried, for example, about the elder game [and are asking] ‘What happens in the elder game, what happens when you get to the highest level?'” he said. “We do have a plan for that and we will be revealing it the future.”

I don’t care a lick about Star Wars or MMOGs but if I did, you better believe that I’d be mighty excited about this. As it is, I’m looking forward to BioWare’s solution to the MMOG end-game dilemma strictly from an academic perspective: How do you end a game that never really ends?
