BOOM! Studios unveils first original series from comic book legend George Pérez in over a decade.

For the past four decades, George Pérez has brought his talent as both an artist and a writer to comic fans around the world. In that time, Pérez has worked on some of the biggest titles and events in the history of comic books, including Wonder Woman, The Avengers, Crisis on Infinite Earths, and Infinity Gauntlet. Now, Pérez is bringing fans his first original series since 1997’s Crimson Plague with the upcoming release of George Pérez’s Sirens, a new six-issue miniseries from BOOM! Studios, beginning this September.

In a statement announcing the upcoming project, BOOM! Studios described the series as a “sweeping cosmic adventure spans time and space and follows a team of female heroes that will appeal to fans of Battlestar Galactica‘s Starbuck, Star Wars‘ Princess Leia, and Alien‘s Ripley.” The series follows a group of female heroes, known as the Sirens, who must reunite to save the galaxy from an intergalactic force that’s been enslaving planets throughout the galaxy. The only problem? The Sirens can’t remember anything about their past history together. Even worse, the rest of the universe does seem to remember the Sirens … not as heroes, but as villains.

“George Pérez is known for working on some of the most beloved comic book characters and stories in the industry, so when he approached us saying he had an original story with an all-female team, there was only one correct answer,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Quite simply, the man is a legend. He’s been an integral part of the comics industry for over 40 years, and it’s an honor to be working with him on a brand-new series. We can’t wait for everybody to see what George is creating with Sirens.”

George Pérez’s Sirens #1, written and drawn by Pérez, hits store shelves on September 17th. The book will ship with two connecting wraparound covers, another illustrated by Cameron Stewart (Fight Club 2, Batman and Robin), as well as two incentive covers featuring the pencils of the George Pérez wraparound covers.
