The battle for the soul of the valley will continue! We don’t yet know what Terry Silver and season four of Cobra Kai will bring, but Netflix has announced that the show has been renewed for an overly dramatic, pitch-perfect, karate-filled season 5. Just where they’ll take the series now, after exhausting the callbacks from the first three movies in the last three seasons, is anybody’s guess.
The series has been a big hit for Netflix, garnering both critical praise and that oh-so-important social buzz. Originally launched on YouTube Red for two seasons, Netflix picked the show up, where those seasons found belated success streaming on the platform. The combination of earnestness and absurdity, mixed with a pinch of nostalgia, makes for a series that should be terrible but works wonders.

While the Cobra Kai season 5 announcement did reveal that the series would begin production in Atlanta this fall, it didn’t say what cast would be returning. It’s pretty safe to say that Ralph Macchio (Daniel LaRusso) and William Zabka (Johnny Lawrence) will return alongside their proteges Mary Mouser (Samantha LaRusso) and Xolo Maridueña (Miguel Diaz) and the rest of the cast. The real question is if Martin Kove or Thomas Ian Griffith will still be around after season 4 or if new karate villains will come to the valley.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television, Cobra Kai is written and executive produced by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg via their production company, Counterbalance Entertainment. Will Smith, James Lassiter, and Caleeb Pinkett executive produce for Westbrook Entertainment along with Susan Ekins. Ralph Macchio and William Zabka also serve as executive producers.
There’s no release date yet for season 5, but season 4 of Cobra Kai will debut this December.
