CD Projekt has announced that the direction of the multiplayer portion of Cyberpunk 2077 is being reconsidered (via VGC). The studio released a far-reaching update video today regarding the company’s overall strategy, including online capabilities. However, CD Projekt emphasized that its priority is to make AAA single-player RPGs.

What this means is that online functions will be implemented in its games where they make sense and that the studio also doesn’t want to go overboard. CEO Adam Kiciński said, “Previously we hinted that our next triple-A would be a multiplayer Cyberpunk game, but we have decided to reconsider this now.”

Kiciński further added, “Given our new more systematic and agile approach, instead of primarily focusing on one big online experience or game, we are focusing on bringing online into all of our franchises one day.” CD Projekt is creating technology that can be naturally integrated into the development of future games. With the new technology in place, the studio also wants to nurture and grow its online communities using GOG Galaxy as its backbone.

Right now, we’re not entirely sure what CD Projekt intends to do with the multiplayer component of Cyberpunk 2077 — whether it is to overhaul it or cancel it completely. The studio recently detailed an enormous 1.2 patch for the game that fixes over 500 issues.
