Dead Space Remake Is Led by Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Game Director

EA’s recently announced Dead Space remake is being led by Assassin’s Creed Valhalla game director Eric Baptizat. First discovered by VGC, Baptizat’s LinkedIn page has been updated to reflect his role at EA Motive Studios. He served at Ubisoft for 16 years before joining EA earlier this year. In addition to his Assassin’s Creed Valhalla game director role, Baptizat worked as lead game designer on other Ubisoft titles, such as Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Unity, and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

Joining Game Director Baptizat on Dead Space is Roman Campos-Oriola, who worked at Ubisoft for around 15 years as well. His credits include work as creative director on For Honor. The senior producer spot is being handled by another former Ubisoft lead, Philippe Ducharme, while the art director position is filled by Dead Space 2 veteran Mike Yazijian. EA published an interview with Campos-Oriola, Ducharme, and Yazijian last week, offering more insight about the direction the leadership team is taking.

“(T)he super-fast SSDs on modern systems allow us to load and unload really fast,” Campos-Oriola said. “Our intention is to offer a fully unbroken experience, it will be an uninterrupted sequence shot, from the start screen to the end credit, without interruption.”

A ground-up Dead Space remake was announced during the EA Play Live Showcase last month, revealing a reimagining of Visceral Games’ original sci-fi survival horror game. The announcement just gave us an eerie trailer to latch on to, so we can only hope to learn more before it launches on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S.
