Diablo II: Resurrected, Blizzard Entertainment, remake, BlizzConline

Blizzard’s long-rumored Diablo II remake has finally been officially revealed as Diablo II: Resurrected, being developed by both Blizzard and Vicarious Visions. The company made the announcement during day one of BlizzConline, an event created after BlizzCon was canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The high-definition remaster is coming to Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S this year with cross-progression. You can take a first look at the remake in the video below.

Diablo II originally launched on PC in 2000, so the updated visuals are probably the first thing you noticed. That said, the style still seems to be in line with the original, and Diablo II: Resurrected also comes with its Lord of Destruction DLC. Every in-game cinematic has been recreated from scratch shot for shot for the remake, promising a shiny new coat of paint for fans both old and new, but there is also a function to toggle instantly between the old and new graphics. The core gameplay experience is completely intact, but there will be some quality-of-life additions like a shared stash. Blizzard’s online shop currently prices the standard version of Diablo II: Resurrected at $39.99.

If you’re already too excited for the remake to wait, you can head over to the game’s website to sign up for a closed PC technical alpha. The game does not have a specific release date yet, so stay tuned for more updates.
