Fallout 4 News Won’t Be Coming Anytime Soon

Fallout 3 Please Stand By

Bethesda Game Director Todd Howard says it’s going to be awhile before we get any actual, real information about Fallout 4.

There’s been a flurry of excitement about Fallout 4 over the past few months, driving fans to distraction with breathless tales about the next entry in the famed post-nuclear RPG franchise. Trouble is, they’ve all been false, even the weeks-long, excruciatingly detailed prank that unfolded at thesurvivor2299.com. Nonetheless, all that heat has to mean something, right? It’s been more than three years since Fallout: New Vegas, after all.

Howard said Bethesda really admires the effort put into the best of the Fallout 4 hoaxes, calling them “a testament to our fans,” but as for when legitimate information will be forthcoming, he advised that breath not be held.

“We don’t [have a timeframe] but I think it’s gonna be awhile,” he told Rock, Paper, Shotgun. “We’ve gotten fairly used to all the questions and curiosity over the years. Everyone wants information. Right now, we’re just trying to figure out which of our ideas are going to stick and finding an appropriate time to talk about it.”

Fallout 4 isn’t a question of “whether” but “when,” so it’s not like the fate of the franchise hangs in the balance, but it would be nice to have something to keep us warm at night while we wait. Alas, the only bone Howard was willing to throw was a statement that the resurgence of the PC, and the new generation of PC-like consoles, is having a real impact on what Bethesda can do with future projects.

“It’s exciting that the new consoles are very PC-like. That opens up avenues for us going forward to do things that we’ve wanted to do in the past,” he said. “There are kind of random ideas we’re working on right now, and it’s like, ‘Wow, I think there’s potential here to do some really cool stuff.'”
