Far Cry 6 Reveals Hectic Gameplay, October Release Date, & Jetpacks

Ubisoft has officially shown as a good look at Far Cry 6 gameplay, and yes, you can pet the T-shirt-wearing alligator. The publisher released the footage in its worldwide gameplay reveal event today, showcasing an open-world entry that looks both new and familiar. Additionally, Ubisoft revealed the final release date for the game, as Far Cry 6 will come to Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S on Oct. 7, 2021.

Yara appears to be just as much of a life-threatening sandbox playground as we’ve seen from the series’s past. Along with cutthroat enemies, the tropical island is home to wildlife, such as the horses, which you can ride, and alligators, which will probably terrify and kill you from time to time. In Far Cry 6, players will fill the shoes of protagonist Dani Rojas, with the option to choose from male and female versions of the character.

The usual assortment of weapons – assault rifles, pistols, mini-guns, flamethrowers etc. – are all here, but weirder weapons, such as the Macarena-playing CD shooter, will be usable as well. On the odd end of the spectrum are special backpacks that give players unique abilities. For example, it looks like you can use a jetpack to ignite close-range enemies, or you can take advantage of the missile-launching backpack to lay waste to foes farther away.

Far Cry 6 gameplay actually leaked a bit early after Polish content creator Rojson uploaded extended footage yesterday. Ubisoft had the video swiftly taken down, but not before hundreds of others watched and downloaded the video for themselves. Ubisoft is notorious for having details leak just before an official announcement makes its way to the public. Two recent examples include the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake leak from last year and five minutes of Rainbow Six Parasite gameplay that leaked just last month.

Far Cry 6 was revealed last July with a CGI trailer, confirming that Breaking Bad and Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito will play the part of the game’s antagonist, Antón Castillo. After being delayed last year due to ongoing struggles caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it looks like Ubisoft has its ducks in a row with Far Cry 6 receiving this October release date.
