Horror Tales: The Wine Review in 3 Minutes – Well-Crafted First-Person Survival Horror

Recommended Videos

Horror Tales: The Wine is a first-person survival horror game developed by Carlos Coronado and is the first of three Horror Tale games. You play a person suffering from a strange illness. The only cure you know of is a bottle of red wine from the island where the outbreak originally occurred. The story unfolds as you read notes scattered around the island, eventually painting a grim and disturbing picture of what happened on the island. While the first half of the story does little more than set the scene, the second half unveils a heart-wrenching tale with messages from specific victims showing how dreadful the situation became.

I am always wary of sequels or connected games being announced before the first game is complete. But with The Wine as spooky as it is, I’m looking forward to seeing how the next entry can keep the tension, add more depth to the story, and smooth over the rough edges. It took a bit more than four hours to complete, but it felt longer in a good way due to how often it had me inching toward the edge of my seat. If you’re interested in a good scare, The Wine is a fine pick.

Horror Tales: The Wine is available now for $14.99 on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
