Nintendo has announced Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, a Warriors-style game developed by Warrior series developer Koei Tecmo.
Koei Tecmo Producer Yosuke Hayashi says that the game will explore the war between the Kingdom of Hyrule and Calamity Ganon, set 100 years before the events of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Eiji Aonuma, Zelda series producer, approached the studio noting that he thought the Warriors gameplay would complement the large-scale battles with hundreds of enemies.
Koei and Nintendo are working very closely regarding gameplay, world-building, and dialogue for the title. The purpose of the game is to present the original Calamity battles that weren’t fully shown in the original Breath of the Wild. Aonuma also says he wants fans of both Breath of the Wild and the previous Hyrule Warriors game to take a chance on this experience.
Aonuma clarifies that Nintendo is still working on the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which was originally revealed back in the June 2019 Nintendo Direct. More development time is needed for the game before Nintendo can provide any future updates about it.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will launch on Nov. 20 this year for Nintendo Switch.
