Neocore NeocoreGames, Kickstarter, XCOM, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X King Arthur: Knight's Tale

A Kickstarter campaign has launched for King Arthur: Knight’s Tale, a top-down tactical fantasy RPG. The Budapest, Hungary-based NeocoreGames announced its turn-based XCOM-like today, saying that the game is set to come first to PC via Steam in early 2021 and then later to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

King Arthur: Knight’s Tale follows Sir Mordred, nemesis to King Arthur. The story begins after Mordred and Arthur have killed each other and are reanimated, with the player tasked with killing the once king again.

The game itself aims to blend XCOM with elements from character-based RPGs through the lens of a twisted version of classic mythology. Moral choice plays a key role in King Arthur: Knight’s Tale, with Neocore promising actions to have “significant consequences in a rogue-lite structure.” Players will control a team of heroes through different battle maps, where tactics and battleground control play a large part. A Knights of the Round Table mechanic will see players gathering their knights to send on quests, with each hero having their own personality. Managing the knights, maintaining their loyalty, and keeping them from certain death (which is permanent) will always be a factor to consider as King Arthur: Knight’s Tale rolls on.

The game’s main campaign features 20 story quests in addition to the numerous side-quests, more than 50 unique points of interest, city management, more than 50 enemy units, 10 boss fights, and an entire realm to explore. There will be challenging endgame content after the campaign is completed as well, with new mythic boss fights, random quests, loot, and more opening up after the credits roll.

NeocoreGames has previously released King Arthur: The Role-Playing Wargame, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing series, and, most recently, Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr. On its Kickstarter page, the studio says that King Arthur: Knight’s Tale is a project “born from our love of the Arthurian legend and we’ve long wanted to return to this series with a completely new take.”

King Arthur: Knight’s Tale’s Kickstarter venture started just today and has already amassed more than $25,000 of its $150,000 goal at the time of publication. Neocore’s campaign for the game will end on Nov. 12.
