Left 4 Dead 2 – The Last Stand Arrives Today as a New Update on a Decade-Old Game

Valve just launched Left 4 Dead 2 – The Last Stand, a free update, more than 10 years after the base game’s original launch. The free post-post-launch content was actually created by a team of more than 30 passionate community members with the blessing of Valve. Throughout an 11-month development cycle, the team worked with support from Valve, bringing more than 20 survival maps, animation updates, new melee weapons, and various other general enhancements. Check out the Left 4 Dead 2 – The Last Stand update trailer below.

Though led by a team of dedicated fans, the content is no less official than other Valve-created DLC. The last formal DLC release for Left 4 Dead 2 came in 2012 in the form of its Cold Stream content, which also involved work from the community.

Left 4 Dead 2 – The Last Stand will likely be the final content update for Valve’s zombie game. Again, the free DLC is out today, so owners should make sure to give it a shot on PC.

Though not exactly Left 4 Dead 3, today’s free content update is all we’ve seen from the series for quite some time. In fact, Valve went as far as to refute claims that Left 4 Dead 3 was in the works earlier this year. More Half-Life is possible, at least.
