Batman isn’t the only superhero landing a new animated series today. HBO Max and Cartoon Network have ordered two seasons of a new animated Superman series called My Adventures with Superman. The show will feature Jack Quaid as the voice of Clark Kent / Superman and will be a more youthful take on the classic characters as it focuses on 20-something versions of Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen.
The first image for My Adventures with Superman dropped today as well, and it looks a bit more lighthearted than the newly announced Batman series, with an art style that’s a bit bouncy and slightly anime. The main focus for the series will be the trio of Clark, Lois, and Jimmy, not just Superman. The series will find Clark just coming into his role as Superman and looking to understand what that means as Lois, voiced by Alice Lee, becomes a breakout journalist and takes Jimmy under her wing. Of course, Lois and Clark will be falling in love the entire time.
“It’s been a great partnership working with Cartoon Network and HBO Max to bring more DC Super Heroes to the platform in new and creatively interesting ways,” said Sam Register, president of Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios. “This is the first animated Superman series in many years and we want to tell our Superman story through the trio of Clark, Lois, and Jimmy – whose relationship dynamic will allow for rich, serialized, and engaging stories as we explore their lives as individuals and their journey together as friends.”
Focusing on the relationships over the heroics is nothing new for Superman shows. In fact, The CW is doing just that successfully right now with its Superman & Lois series, but it sounds like we’ll be getting a different angle here given the relative youth of everyone in My Adventures with Superman.
