BioWare’s heavily rumored Mass Effect Legendary Edition is real, but a “veteran team” is also working on the next chapter in the sci-fi RPG’s expansive universe. This year’s N7 Day has been a particularly anticipated celebration, and the EA studio did not disappoint with the blog post it published today. Aside from the promise of the upcoming remasters currently set to launch spring 2021, BioWare General Manager Casey Hudson revealed that a new Mass Effect in development:
Meanwhile here at BioWare, a veteran team has been hard at work envisioning the next chapter of the Mass Effect universe. We are in early stages on the project and can’t say any more just yet, but we’re looking forward to sharing our vision for where we’ll be going next.
Unfortunately, that’s all we know for now regarding this new Mass Effect, which would be the first fresh entry since BioWare’s 2017 title, Mass Effect: Andromeda.
Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3 remasters had been long-rumored, with first word of enhanced versions of EA’s classic PlayStation 3- and Xbox 360-era games coming this past May from VentureBeat reporter Jeff Grubb. More hints came in September when console listings were spotted and removed, with Korean ratings showing up mid-October.
It remains to be seen what direction this new Mass Effect will take.
