Square Enix NieR Replicant remaster NieR Re[in]carnation

NieR Replicant Remaster in Development, Plus NieR Mobile Game

Square Enix unveiled a remaster of the original NieR during a livestreamed 10th Anniversary Concert earlier today. The remaster is based upon the Japan-only PlayStation 3 version of the game, called NieR Replicant, which featured a younger protagonist than the international release, NieR Gestalt. Aside from the age of the lead character and some dialogue lines, the two versions are largely the same.

NieR Replicant (and Gestalt) is the precursor to PlatinumGames‘ 2017 hit NieR: Automata. Similarly to that sequel, it is known for requiring multiple playthroughs to uncover all the secrets it holds, as well as playing with genre expectations. The story follows the eponymous character as he seeks out a cure to the Black Scrawl disease that afflicts his (in Replicant‘s case) sister.

NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139, as the remaster is bizarrely fully named, will be available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Development duties for the project have been outsourced to Toylogic, a Japanese studio that previously worked on the 3DS version of Dragon Quest XI and assisted Tango Gameworks on The Evil Within. Additional details on the remaster, including release date, are yet to come.

Square-Enix also announced a new mobile game called NieR Re[in]carnation. That title is believed to be a free-to-play RPG, though no specific gameplay details have been revealed.
