Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series has cast Indira Varma Darth Vader

Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ Show Casts Game of Thrones’ Indira Varma

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series coming to Disney+ may not have an official title yet, but it does have another cast member. The routinely delayed series, which has run into both production and pandemic-related problems, has brought Indira Varma on board to join what is at the moment a three-person cast. There’s no word on who Varma will play, but the possibilities could range from Luke’s Aunt Beru to a sand person given how few details we have on the show.

Indira Varma is best known for her turn as Ellaria Sand on Game of Thrones, where she starred with The Mandalorian‘s Pedro Pascal. She’s had plenty of other roles as well, but once you’re on Game of Thrones that’s pretty much what you’re known for… unless you show up in Star Wars. She’s only the third actor to be confirmed for the series and the first that hasn’t already starred in a Star Wars property, as Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen are the other two. Those two will obviously be reprising their roles of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader, respectively, but there’s no word on how Varma will relate to them.

It’s been a long haul for the Obi-Wan series, which started off more a thing of legend than actual fact. After being announced back in 2019, the series was looking at being the first Star Wars show to release. Its production halted, however, after rewrites were needed and then once again as the pandemic came into full swing. The series is said to be set 10 years after the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and seemingly takes place on the desert planet of Tatooine as Obi-Wan looks over a young Luke Skywalker, protecting him from his father.

With the success of The Mandalorian on Disney+ it’s pretty clear that Disney is looking to get more Star Wars content onto the platform soon. Alongside the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, it has a host of other Star Wars shows in the works including Ahsoka, The Bad Batch, and The Book of Boba Fett.
