Red Dead Online to Be Offered as Standalone Purchase Starting in December

Red Dead Redemption 2’s online component, Red Dead Online, will be available to buy separately starting next month. Rockstar Games revealed the option to make a split purchase in a blog post today, saying that players can purchase a standalone version of the online mode on consoles and PC starting Dec. 1.

Purchasing the mode nets you all previous and upcoming free updates, and it will be offered at an introductory price of $4.99. That price will only be available for a limited time, as Rockstar says the standalone version of Red Dead Online will cost $19.99 starting on Feb. 15, 2021. Additionally, you’ll need to clear up a whopping 123 GB of storage to download the mode, and you’ll also be able to purchase an in-game key that unlocks the Red Dead Redemption 2 story mode. No price for the additional campaign mode unlock was given.

Rockstar further provided an update on the game’s soon-to-launch Bounty Hunters Role expansion, which brings in new criminals, skills, Legendary Bounties, a 100 Rank Outlaw Pass, and more starting next week. To celebrate, Red Dead Online will feature double XP on Bounty Hunter missions this week.

Red Dead Redemption 2 launched for consoles in October of 2018, coming to PC one year after its initial release.
