Russell Crowe Thor: Love and Thunder

Russell Crowe Joins Ever-Expanding Cast of Thor: Love and Thunder

Thor: Love and Thunder is turning into quite the star-studded affair as more and more random casting news come in. While the film is already filming in Australia, casting news is still coming. Today, THR reports that Russell Crowe has joined the Thor: Love and Thunder cast in a mystery role. Rumors of his involvement in the film first surfaced over the weekend when photos of him and the rest of the cast appeared online, but official confirmation came today.

The role Crowe will take on is said to be small, which is in line with most of the surprise casting news we’ve heard from the film. Director Taika Waititi did a bit of stunt casting in the previous movie when Matt Damon played an actor playing the role of Loki in a play about Loki’s heroic death put on by Loki himself. This is most likely the same kind of brief stunt role that Crowe will play. He isn’t the only star coming in either. Damon is said to be returning for a cameo in the film, and other leaked images previously showed that Melissa McCarthy may be playing a part. Maybe we’re getting a full play within a play this time.

The cameo cast members like Russell Crowe will be joined by the actual cast of Chris Hemsworth returning as Thor, Natalie Portman finally coming back and possibly becoming Thor as well, and Tessa Thompson returning as Valkyrie. The film’s villain, Gorr the God Butcher, is being played by Christian Bale. We’re still waiting to hear if any other Marvel heroes will show up in the film or if the fourth Thor film will stand more alone than the likes of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to release on Feb. 11, 2022.
