Comic-Con@Home, the virtual replacement for San Diego Comic-Con, is coming soon, and everyone is announcing what they’ll be showing, including Amazon. The streamer revealed that it will be bringing the hotly anticipated The Wheel of Time adaptation to the Amazon panel at Comic-Con at 11 a.m. PT / 2p.m. ET on Friday, July 23, along with information on the new Neon Genesis Evangelion movie, Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon a Time.
The Wheel of Time Comic-Con segment will feature showrunner Rafe Judkins discussing the series, which stars Moraine as she sets out on a journey alongside the savior or destroyer of all humanity. Most likely the panel will also feature our first chance to see the show in action and probably one or two of the stars popping in as “surprise” guests. The second big part of the panel, which features five shows/films in total, is a discussion with Neon Genesis Evangelion series creator Hideaki Anno as he teases the fourth and final Evangelion Rebuild film, Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon a Time. The four-part film series retells the story of the original anime and has been hotly anticipated by fans and people who like titles with lots of numbers in them for a while.
The panel will also feature a look at Amazon’s reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer, its reboot of Leverage called Leverage: Redemption, and the Mexican zombie series, S.O.Z. Soldiers or Zombies. It’s a solid slate of nerdom, though it doesn’t quite hold a candle to Netflix’s entire week of dropping genre content.
While Amazon might be going all out for Comic-Con@Home, other studios are staying away. Both Marvel and DC have confirmed that they will not be presenting anything at the event. Considering DC held its own event last year and Marvel hardly needs the promotional help, especially from an online-only event, it makes plenty of sense and holds on trend with studios moving away from spending a ton of money at conventions to instead do their own releases on their own time.
