Will Poulter Has Exited Amazon’s Lord of the Rings Show

Will Poulter is reportedly no longer attached to Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series. Coming from a report from Variety, Poulter left the project due to “scheduling conflicts.” The Midsommar and Black Mirror: Bandersnatch star’s role in the show was never disclosed, and it seems what part he was set to play will continue to remain secret for now. News of Poulter’s involvement originally broke back in September, but now a replacement is being sought.

Amazon has been largely quiet about its Lord of the Rings project, but that hasn’t stopped a number of disparate details about the show’s cast and length from coming out. For instance, an interview from August stated that the first season of the show could be 20 episodes in length. The total budget for the show has been estimated in the past at around $1 billion. And Game of ThronesJoseph Mawle and Picnic at Hanging Rock’s Markella Kavenagh are both reportedly attached to the series.

Notably, Amazon already renewed the Lord of the Rings show for a second season just last month. Plans for a season two will likely stay on track, and as far as expected scheduling goes, it sounds like the show is still set to premiere sometime in 2021.
