Watch 5 Bloody Minutes Of Ninja Gaiden 3 Gameplay

This article is over 12 years old and may contain outdated information

First, it’s like WHOOSH and then it’s like SLICE and then BOOM! Dragon outta nowhere!

If you’ve ever wondered why people dig the latter-day Ninja Gaiden games, this video is a perfect example of their appeal. Yes, they are incredibly difficult and thrive on punishing players for any and all mistakes, but once you know what you’re doing, once you have a handle on Ryu Hayabusa’s abilities and can reasonably predict what your foes might do, the gameplay becomes a sublime orgy of blood, lacerations, and mythical beasts tearing your foes limb from limb.

Whatever worries I might have had about the upcoming Ninja Gaiden 3 based on the departure of histrionically misogynistic series figurehead Tomonobu Itagaki were largely wiped away by this latest footage. Assuming the new development team at Tecmo Koei doesn’t totally botch the game’s necessarily tight controls, Ninja Gaiden 3 should be pretty great when it hits shelves next month.

Alongside the above trailer, Tecmo Koei also dropped a promo for the Vita-exclusive Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus. Like the PlayStation 3’s Ninja Gaiden Sigma, this game is a remake of the Xbox-exclusive Ninja Gaiden, with added characters, added gameplay options and improved visuals. Overall it looks like a solid, if largely rehashed package, though I’m morbidly curious as to how many Vita owners will end up smashing their shiny new handheld to pieces after that first boss annihilates them for the seventeenth time.

And that should pretty much cover all of your ninja-centric needs for 2012. Questions?
