What are Weapon Coatings in V Rising and How to Get Them

Here are all the weapon coatings that you will find in V Rising and how you can craft them in the game.

Like Elixirs, weapon coatings are consumables that give you an added advantage in V Rising. There are different types of coatings that you can use, but you need to craft all of them.

There are many weapons to choose from, depending on your preferred playstyle. Weapon coatings add a specific elemental buff to your current weapon, making it more powerful in combat. While using a coating isn’t required, we recommend it because it can significantly reduce the time it takes to defeat a boss.

All Weapon Coatings in V Rising

There are only six weapon coatings in the game. This item, however, is an endgame item, so you’ll have to progress far in the story until you get to use this consumable on your weapons.

The items and what they do are as follows:

Weapon CoatingEffect
Blood CoatingThe next main attack inflicts Leech and Vampiric Curse and deals 40% magic damage. Spawns a Blood Orb after 2 Seconds
Chaos CoatingThe next main attack triggers a Chaos Explosion and deals 50% magic damage. Also inflicts ignite.
Unholy CoatingThe next main attack deals 40% bonus magic damage. It also inflicts Condemn, and conjures a bone spirit that encircles the target, which deals bonus 50% damage and inflicts Condemn on any enemy it strikes.
Illusion CoatingThe next main attack triggers an Energy Burst, dealing 30% magic damage in an area. It inflicts Weaken and grants 4 stacks of Phantasm.
Frost CoatingThe next main attack triggers a Frost Nova, dealing 30% magic damage in an area, inflicting Chill.
Storm CoatingThe next main attack deals 40% bonus magic damage and triggers Chain Lightning.

How to Unlock Weapon Coatings in V Rising

You’ll first have to craft the Alchemy Table to unlock weapon coatings. To do so, you’ll have to defeat Clive, the Firestarter. After you’ve defeated him, you’ll have to work your way through the other V Blood Carriers till you get to Stavros the Carver.

You can find him loitering around the Carver Logging Outpost to the west of Oakveil Woods. Once you’ve defeated him, you’ll unlock the recipe to craft all weapon coatings in V Rising. Despite different types of coatings, there’s just a single recipe for all of them.

To craft these weapon coatings at the Alchemy Table, you’ll require:

  • 16 Corrupted Flower
  • 16 Venom Sap

Your weapon coatings cannot be stacked, and it’s always advisable to have multiple coatings in your inventory so that you can quickly swap between them in combat in V Rising
