WoW‘s Money Receives Real-World Port

Blizzard is putting out some real-world versions of WoW‘s in-game currency, but it is neither cheap nor for the Horde.

Stories about World of Warcraft players paying real money for in-game gold are a dime a dozen these days. However, up until now, this has all been virtual cash that people have been buying. All that’s about to change, though, since Blizzard is teaming up with DC Comics to put out a physical collection of the game’s coinage that is designed to appeal to any hardcore Alliance member.

The coin set was apparently unveiled at Comic-Con, and you’ll be able to order them from DC Direct come August 25, provided you’re OK shelling out $69.99 for them. According to the site, the coins sound like they’re pretty high-quality productions:

The 24 karat gold-plated coin features the Human Military Leader of the Alliance: King Varian Wrynn of Stormwind and measures approximately 1.625″ in diameter. The sterling silver-plated coin features the Dwarven King: Magni Bronzebeard of Iron Forge and measures approximately 1.375″ in diameter. The copper-plated coin features the Night Elf High Priestess: Tyrande Whisperwind of Silvermoon and measures approximately 1.25″ in diameter. All coins are approximately 0.125″ thick and are removable from the box. A non-removable commemorative metal plaque with the Alliance emblem is also included.

While $69.99 might sound like a lot to spend on some coins that don’t actually have any real-world value, that amount is nothing compared to what serious fans of WoW have bought and sold in the past for in-game gear. Presumably, if this sells well, a similiar Horde-friendly version will hit the market at some point in the future.

(Of course, we all know that High Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind actually hails from Darnassus. Shh, nobody tell DC!)
