2XKO’s Fuse system explained: Fuses Tier list, types, and more

On the surface, 2XKO looks like a relatively standard fighting game with some League of Legends characters thrown in to draw in the eyeballs. Those who have skipped the game during its early access period will finally be able to see just how complex and mechanically rewarding it can be now that it’s here.

One system that players need to get to grips with quickly is Fuse, which is the name for the character mechanics. While 2XKO is intended to involve team battles, the Fuse system offers players a variety of options for their playstyle.

The Escapist recaps

  • 2XKO is a 2v2 fighting game based on the League of Legends franchise.
  • Fuses is the name for the team mechanic in 2XKO
  • Fuses can be used to change how teams function, or even allow players to use a single character.
  • There are five kinds of Fuses available in 2XKO.
  • There were other Fuses during early access, but these were removed over time.

You select a Fuse option before your Champion. This is because the choice will determine whether you use one or two characters. The Fuse choice cannot be changed mid-match, but can once a new match begins. You need to complete the Fuses tutorial to activate all of them, ensuring you’ll at least have a basic knowledge of their functions if you want to have full access.

If you’re using a Fuse that lets you select two characters, you will be able to use the Team button in battle for different functions. This is tied to the Assist meter, which has its own cooldown. When Assist is full, it’s possible to switch characters or to bring in the other Champion to perform an attack (with two potential options, depending on which direction is held when pressing the Team button). It’s also possible to use a Push Assist when blocking to knock an enemy back.

There are five Fuses in 2XKO at launch, each with its own functions.

2X Assist: The 2X Assist Fuse lets you perform two Assist attacks, one after the other. It’s important to note that timing is crucial, but the tutorial doesn’t explain it properly. To correctly perform the second Assist, enter the directional input + Team press roughly when the first Assist action has finished, not twice in a row as the guide suggests.

Double Down Fuse: One of the simpler Fuse options to select in 2XKO, but with lots of potential. If both characters have bars on their Super Meter, it’s possible to go straight from one Champion’s Super/Ultimate attack into their teammates, leading to some potent combos. Double Down Fuse can also perform a Handshake Tag during a Super, so long as the other character is already on the screen when you start the Super.

Freestyle: The Freestyle Fuse is all about performing combos. When performing a handshake tag in Freestyle Fuse, the second character will linger for longer. This means you can call in the Assist attack, switch to the other character and attack, then switch back to the Assist character for more attacks. This can be incredibly tricky to pull off, but it can allow you to strike an enemy from both sides.

Juggernaut: Selecting Juggernaut means you’re only picking a single Champion and losing many of the benefits of the Team button. In exchange, your Champion gets a 20% increase to their maximum health, and their damage reduction is improved when their health drops to a third. Their Super Meter maximum is increased, and they start with two bars.

Juggernaut Fuse switches out the Push Assist for Push Block, which allows you to knock back an enemy while blocking. Additionally, you can force the enemy Champion to swap by hitting down and Team.

Sidekick Fuse: Like Juggernaut Fuse, Sidekick Fuse only lets you fight with a single Champion, and you gain a similar health and defensive boost. You still select a second Champion, and they can be called in to perform Assist actions, including Brace, to reduce damage if they attack just as the main Champion is hit.

It’s tricky to define the best Fuses in 2XKO, especially when its meta is in flux and can change as soon as the full release happens. The Fuses are also dependent on the player’s progression and style.

Juggernaut and Sidekick are the best ones for new players or people coming from other fighting games, as they allow you to learn the mechanics of a single character without being overwhelmed by facing two opponents.

Freestyle is one of the weaker Fuses, at least in unskilled hands, as it requires a ton of skill and situational luck to make use of, especially in a game where there are so many options.

2X Assist is situational, as the ability to perform two Assists depends entirely on the team. Picking characters with powerful Assists, like Ekko and his time-slowing Timewinder or Jinx’s long-ranged rockets, makes 2X Assist the better choice.

Double Down Fuse beats out the others due to its ridiculous damage potential and ability to fire off two Super/Ultimate attacks. The sheer raw might of Double Down Fuse makes it the best choice for most players at launch, but the others offer great learning potential when getting to grips with 2XKO’s mechanics, and Freestyle might be able to beat it in the hands of accomplished players.

Ask The Escapist

When will 2XKO be released?

2XKO leaves early access on January 20, 2026.

What platforms is 2XKO releasing on?

2XKO will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S once it leaves early access.

Is 2XKO coming to Nintendo Switch 2?

Riot Games has yet to announce a Nintendo Switch 2 version, but the system is more than capable of running it, so a port is likely.

How much will 2XKO cost?

2XKO is completely free-to-play. The game is monetized through cosmetic items. Many of the Champions also require the player to use specific items, which can be earned through regular play, but are much quicker to unlock by spending cash.
