Blizzard held its Diablo 30th Anniversary Spotlight event today and confirmed plenty to look forward to for fans of its iconic ARPG – especially if you’ve been yearning for a Diablo Warlock.
From new details for the Lord of Hatred expansion for Diablo 4, to a new major update called Reign of the Warlock for Diablo 2 Resurrected, and the Warlock class in Diablo Immortal, there’s plenty of spooky spells to sling.
It’s Warlocks all around for Diablo 4 and more
This marks the first new playable class in Diablo 2 Resurrected in 25 years (we’re certainly curious to see what longtime fans think of that), and will have you binding and sacrificing demons throughout the campaign and endgame.
Reign of the Warlock will also include a loot filter tool for D2 Resurrected, all handled in-game. Items will stack more neatly in your inventory now, too. A new Chronicle tool will let you track every item you’ve earned in the game, too.
Players can keep their characters in Classic, or move forward to Resurrected, and then onto Reign of the Warlock. Oh, and the expansion is out today – time to redownload Diablo 2 Resurrected, I reckon, which will be easier since it’s finally landed on Steam with an Infernal Edition that includes Reign of the Warlock.
The Warlock also makes up the second new class for Diablo 4’s Lord of Hatred expansion, matching up with the leaked artwork last week.
Diablo 4 shows the Warlock at “the height of their strength” and works to turn the force of hell against itself. There’s a full developer update on March 5 to go deeper on the Warlock specifically.
Diablo 4 is in a pretty great place right now, but the Lord of Hatred “builds on everything” Blizzard has learned so far.
Skovos is the new location for the expansion, and it promises “more monster variety than ever,” Blizzard promised on today’s stream.
War Plans are a new endgame system that lets players create playlists of activities to complete for rewards. Each endgame activity will have its own skill trees, and an Echoing Hatred activity will be a rare place to battle endless foes for better loot.
Skill Trees are getting a sizeable revamp that will be available for all players, allowing for many more customization options earlier in the game. Every skill in the game will get adjustable options, with one example being that the Sorcerer’s Hydra can now attack faster or last longer, or use them to turn from fire beasts to ice ones.
Every class gets these Skill Tree updates and a new itemization system. The Talisman lets you activate Charms, which offer set bonuses. The Horadric Cube is back, too, and it’ll let you combine materials to “forge items to fit your playstyle”, while you’ll be able to use a loot filter to make it easier to find what you want.
The class will also come to Diablo Immortal. The Immortal version blurs the line between hero and villain, and wields long-buried dark magic to open portals to hell for commanding demons, as well as being able to use demonic weaponry of her own.
The class will get an origin quest, and the region of Lut Gholein is back, taking plenty of inspiration from Diablo 2 Resurrected. It’ll launch in June, but before then, Andariel is back for you to vanquish.

Did the Diablo Showcase hit the heights you’d hoped? I had my fingers crossed for something hitting Switch 2, but I’m pretty pumped for just about everything revealed – and wasn’t expecting three different versions of the Warlock.
