Arknights PC Client appears to get thumbs up from Chinese government

Arknights, the strategy gacha game with a huge follow-up on the way, is finally coming to PC. Announced back in April, it’s been in the works for some time now. However, as the developers and publisher, Hypergryph, are based in China, they have to abide by certain rules.

To get a game out in the country, you have to apply for the publishing license. However, this isn’t a rolling department within the CPC, and will occasionally halt any approvals. This happened in 2018 and 2022, with the industry suffering. However, spotted on the National Press and Publication Administration website, which documents upcoming approvals, the PC client now has the thumbs up for release.

No word on global PC client for Arknights

It comes after years of asking for an official client on PC, where gacha games are coming to more frequently since Genshin Impact’s massive success on the platform. There’s no indication if it’ll come to the global community day and date, as the announcement was during a Chinese stream. I can’t imagine them splitting the difference between launches by sixth months like it does with its updates, but I also have zero idea how they handle their updates internally.

So far, Arknights has only been playable on PC through Google’s official Play Store app or emulators. In fact, some gacha games, like Destiny: Rising, actually just recommend using an emulator of some kind rather than bringing a dedicated PC client to the market.

Arknights’ follow-up, Endfield, is expected at the start of 2026 and has been nicknamed “Whenfield” by the community due to its lengthy development time. The game changes the game from a top-down tower defence strategy game to an action RPG similar to HoYoVerse’s Genshin and ZZZ. This one is coming to PC, as well as PS5, as the gacha industry chases after trends.
