You see, the thing about that headline is it’s very clever. You are welcome. You can’t teach this stuff. Anyway, after an eternity, Marathon now has a launch date – an actual launch date, and you can read all about what you get with the various editions right here on The Escapist.
But what about your PC? It’s taken that long for the game to arrive the specs aren’t arduous at all, so let’s have a poke around and see just what kind of rig you are going to need to get the most from this long-awaited shooter.
Marathon PC System Requirements
Okay, let’s have a peek closer at what Bungie is telling us:
| Specification | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating System | Windows 10 64-bit (or newer) | Windows 10 64-bit (or newer) |
| CPU | Intel Core i5-6600 AMD Ryzen 5 2600 | Intel Core i5-10400 AMD Ryzen 5 3500 |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (4 GB) AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT (4 GB) Intel Arc A580 (8 GB, ReBAR on) | Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 (6 GB) AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT (8 GB) Intel Arc A770 (16 GB, ReBAR on) |
| DirectX | Version 12 | Version 12 |
In practical terms, these requirements suggest Marathon is pretty well-optimised out of the gate and not chasing bleeding-edge PC hardware.
The minimum specs are comfortably within reach of older mid-range systems, meaning most players should be able to run the game at lower settings without much trouble. Hitting the recommended specs, though, should give you a much smoother experience, higher frame rates, and better visual fidelity — especially if you’re aiming for higher resolutions or more demanding effects. Marathon should play nice with the mainstream PC crowd, rather than being a hardware-melter that demands the latest GPUs just to optimize the shaders.
