Nucleares

Fancy controlling your own nuclear power plant? What could possibly go wrong?

Imagine a future of clean energy. No longer do we need to belch out fossil fumes from power stations. The future is tightly run, perfectly safe, mini-reactors helping us live harmoniously together with as much electricity as we need. Then imagine letting me run one.

Such an event would have the guys at Chernobyl saying they thought this wasn’t a good idea, but step aside. I am here to clean up your world, with a little help from MicroProse’s new deep-sim title Nucleares, which has actually been around since 2023, but has now picked up the backing of the new publisher.

There are a few interesting bits I could throw into the job interview. My brother-in-law used to be second in command at one of the UK’s largest nuclear power plants. I may choose to miss out the bit that whenever he was talking to me about his job, I didn’t have a clue what he was talking about, but we have a family industry in the craft of the atom. Some people’s grandfathers were blacksmiths, whereas I am only related, via the marriage of my sister, to a guy who ran a power plant. Experience counts though.

MicroProse describes Nucleares thus: “In Nucleares, players take control of a fully simulated nuclear facility – from ignition to full-power energy production – while managing over 200 parameters, responding to emergencies, and balancing the constant tension between output, safety, and survival. It is as educational as it is intense, and fits perfectly within the legacy of detailed, realistic simulation experiences that MicroProse is known for.”

There’s a 15% off discount on Steam right now, and the game has a Very Positive Rating at the time of writing and hopefully the new deal with MicroProse, who are hoovering up some great stuff at the moment will help propel it to great success.
