Splitgate’s relaunch is not looking too promising, with Steam count dwindling

Splitgate 2, aka Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, relaunched after unlaunching in mid-December 2025. Despite making some massive changes to the game, it looks like the game is still struggling on Steam.

Heading into 2026, multiple X accounts have shared screenshots of Splitgate 2’s player count on Steam. On the morning of January 1st, the game had approximately 1,000 players. In the afternoon, another screenshot showed just over 800 players. It’s not the numbers needed to rivalize a game, which has upset the fanbase.

Splitgate: Arena Reloaded fans sad to see low player count

When Splitgate 2 was initially launched in June 2025, the majority of gamers didn’t really like it. After overwhelmingly negative feedback to the gameplay, developers unlaunched the game. 1047 Games was then set to launch it again in 2026.

However, gamers were surprised when developers announced a sudden relaunch in December 2025. At first, players were skeptical. However, the amount of content that 1047 was fixing up seemed like the entire journey was well worth it. Faction removal, map pickups, revamped progression, and new maps and weapons made it seem like they could very well save the game.

Unfortunately, the players just aren’t showing up.

In the past six months, Steam Charts shows an all-time peak of 25,785 players. Even that isn’t an incredible amount when compared to games like Marvel Rivals, which had an all-time peak of 642,333 and currently has over 93,000 players a year after launch. Even Overwatch 2, a game many claim is “dying,” has a little over 29,000 players right now.

Gamers are devastated by the relaunch numbers. Many noted the addictive, fun gameplay and felt it wasn’t getting a fair chance. Despite the positive reviews from players, Splitgate seems unable to shake off its rocky start. The “MAKE FPS GREAT AGAIN” stunt at the Summer Game Fest and the underwhelming launch and unlaunch have caused gamers to shrug off Splitgate altogether.

Is it due to a lack of hype surrounding the relaunch? Is it due to an absence of streamers playing the game? Is it due to other games grabbing the spotlight while Splitgate fumbled around with a bunch of launches and unlaunches? Probably a blend of everything.

It’s too early to say the game is “dead,” as some gamers would like to declare. There is always hope. But it’s definitely not looking good for Splitgate: Arena Reloaded going into 2026.
