Total War Warhammer 40K

Total War: Warhammer 40K is the next game in the franchise, and David Harbour is here to tell you all about it

Stranger Things’ David Harbour popped up at The Game Awards this year to talk all about the next instalment of Total War – a long-awaited trip to the grimdark future of the Warhammer 40K universe.

Hopper himself is a big fan of painting miniatures and tabletop gaming, it turns out, and Creative Assembly’s fourth collaboration with Games Workshop will include Space Marines, Orks, Aeldari, and Astra Militarum.

Total War is going back to Warhammer, but this time it’s 40K

As shown in the reveal trailer, players can drop their forces onto the battlefield, command Dreadnaughts and orbital strikes, and zoom out for what looks like space combat, too.

Your army can be customized, including changing colors of armor, and updating their tactical options. The game’s Steam page even suggests you can “erase entire planets from existence”, which I’d imagine is what feels like flipping a table when things don’t go your way.

“In the Era Indomitus, the galaxy is aflame with endless war, and every soul’s survival hangs by a thread. Take command of iconic factions, customise your war machine, and engage in devastating battles as you carve a bloody warpath across the stars,” the page says.

No release window was given for Total War: Warhammer 40K, but we did get to see some early gameplay showing urban environments teeming with soldiers.

Total War: Warhammer 40K follows on from a trilogy of Total War: Warhammer titles set in the fantasy-flavored Warhammer era (not Age of Sigmar, as I was so politely reminded). It also follows the reveal of Total War: Medieval III just a few days ago.
