Update: Ubisoft sent The Escapist this comment:
“Rainbow Six Siege recently experienced a cyberattack causing limited disruptions, including fake ban notifications and unauthorized credit grants. Following that incident, some players have received new false ban notifications on January 4 ; these were not official and did not result in an actual ban. Additionally, the esports blue banner has been temporarily disabled following reports of unofficial messaging. While we are continuing our investigation, as of this time, there is no indication that any personal data nor source code was compromised as a result of this incident. We are actively working to resolve these issues, including synchronization errors and server disconnects, and are taking all necessary actions to protect the game and the Siege community.”
Ubisoft has seemingly suffered another widespread cyberattack, with Rainbow Six players being hit by bans inspired by the ‘Six-Seven’ brainrot meme.
Just days after a hack that handed out in-game currency to players and reportedly claimed source code for Ubisoft projects, Rainbow Six Siege X is still currently down with issues “being investigated” according to the game’s status page.
Ubisoft hit by second hack in the space of a week
As part of the hack, players are being hit with 67-day bans instead of free premium currency, with the in-game reasoning tied to “harassment offenses”.
Other notifications include one that says, “We wanted to let you know that 67676767 of your reports led to sanctions.”
The team at The Escapist also received notifications that our own Ubisoft accounts had been targeted as part of the hack, with logins listed from Dhaka (Bangladesh), Yaroslavl (Russia), Curico (Chile), and more. Accounts with two-factor authentication appear to be safe, at least for now.
As of the time of writing, the Rainbow Six Siege X account on X (formerly Twitter) has yet to post since December 29 in the aftermath of the prior hack.
We’ve reached out to Ubisoft for comment and will update this story if a statement is made by the publisher.
For now, we’d recommend ensuring two-factor authentication is enabled on your Ubisoft account and that payment information is removed from your account at this time.
