Nintendo Voluntarily Replacing Wii Straps

This article is over 17 years old and may contain outdated information

Nintendo has begun offering to replace the 3.2 million thin Wii Remote straps with thicker versions for free.

After sporadic reports of Wii Remotes flying out of hands and into expensive electronics and windows, Nintendo is offering new wrist straps to all customers. New Wii Remotes and consoles are already selling with the new straps, so this voluntary global recall will mainly effect launch buyers. If you’re not sure which strap you have, you can view the differences here.

In order to get your new straps, simply go to this page and fill out your shipping information and Wii serial number. Nintendo will begin shipping the new straps December 21st and claims they will take five to nine days for delivery.

Nintendo is also recalling 200,000 AC adapters for the DS and DS Lite in Japan, because they may overheat and cause burns on rare occasions. North America and Europe are not affected by this issue. The adapter recall is expected to cost $1.7 million for Nintendo and their adapter supplier.
