Project Helix – new generation of Xbox console announced – here’s everything we don’t know about it, which is pretty much everything at this stage

The “next generation of Xbox console” has just been announced in a glorious seven second long video contained in a post on X.

What we have at this stage is a new Xbox logo featuring a, er, Helix and a short audio sting and that is literally that.

In a follow up tweet, new Xbox gaming CEO Asha Sharma then said:

“Great start to the morning with Team Xbox, where we talked about our commitment to the return of Xbox including Project Helix, the code name for our next generation console. Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games. Looking forward to chatting about this more with partners and studios at my first GDC next week!

What is Project Helix?

So, we also have confirmation that Helix will play your PC and Xbox games – so, kinda what your PC does already then, but there is no information other than that.

The logo is pretty cool, and doubtless more information will start to be briefed out in the coming days. Exciting times perhaps, but we would imagine this isn’t anything that is just around the corner at this stage.

Reaction from “gamers” on X has been as you might expect, because, well nobody likes anything anymore.

“A generation of barely any games and you want to push a new console. This generation alone hardly justified its existence. We don’t need to be talking about next gen for at LEAST another 5 years. Make some games.”

“You still don’t get it! It’s going to be even worse than the Xbox One and Series. Avoid Windows 11 Between the forced, broken updates and bloatware installed without consent, it’s garbage for gaming. Even the initial setup (OOBE) is a disaster!”

Just two examples of the ensuing barrage in the comments. Ah well, we are still a little excited.

More when we get it.
