Counter-Strike 2 has redefined the competitive shooter landscape as the most popular shooter on the market, with countless guns you can buy in-game. It is essential to know what is worth your time and what you should skip. Each gun carries its own risk, reward, and downsides. From the iconic AK-47 or AWP to the lesser-used SMGs. Knowing the best CS2 weapons to pick in each round can make or break your team’s win.

This CS2 weapon tier list will teach you what will give you the edge you need to win your fights and what weapons you can leave lying on the ground.
The Escapist recaps
- The best Counter-Strike 2 weapons are S-Tier (AWP, AK-47, M4A1-S, and Desert Eagle).
- The worst CS2 weapons are the D-Tier options (Revolver, M249, and Negev).
- The CS2 weapon tiers can change as the game updates and rebalances.
- The AWP and AK-47 are the two most feared by their pure damage output and game-changing ability.
CS2 weapons tier list in brief
Want to know the best CS2 weapons at a glance? We’ve got you covered. Top options in today’s meta include the AWP, AK-47, M4A1-S, and the Desert Eagle. These are encompassing and powerful (yet expensive) options for competitive play that can change the tide of battles in the right hands.
The worst CS2 weapons are the Revolver, M249, and the Negev. These are incredibly situational and (largely) outclassed by just about anything else available on the T and CT sides. We generally recommend avoiding any D-tier picks.
A similar statement can be made for C-tier options; they are nowhere near as poor as the three bottom-tier firearms, but there are better alternatives here.
| Tiers | CS2 Weapons |
|---|---|
| S-Tier | AWP, AK-47, M4A1-S- Desert Eagle |
| A-Tier | M4A4, Famas, Galil AR, Tec-9, Five-Seven, MP9, MAC-10, SSG 08, Glock-18, USP-S |

S-Tier CS2 weapons
S-Tier weapons are undoubtedly the heavy hitters in the CS2 servers. Capable of changing rounds at a moment’s notice or a single shot. Dominating the fight, these guns define the meta of the game in both casual play and professional play. They reward skill and precision, and are essential to ensure you win the round.

- Team T
- Cost: $2,700
- Kill Reward: $300
- Damage: 36 per hit
- Magazine: 30 / 90
- Fire Rate: 600 RPM
The AK-47 is the powerhouse of the T side, known as one of CS2’s best guns. It’s capable of one-tapping armoured opponents at any range. Its versatility and sheer damage make it the go-to for T side.

- Team CT
- Cost: $2,900
- Kill Reward: $300
- Damage: 38 per hit
- Magazine: 20 / 80
- Fire Rate: 600 RPM
The M4A1-S, a silenced version of the M4A1, is an extremely precise and low-recoil rifle, ideal for those who appreciate accuracy. The easy spray pattern and good first bullet accuracy make it the ideal choice for most CTs.
Desert Eagle:
- Team CT & T
- Cost: $700
- Kill Reward: $300
- Damage: 53 per shot
- Magazine: 7 / 35
The Desert Eagle is one of the highest damage pistols. This monster of a gun has the ability to turn the tide of an eco round or force-buy round. While it’s a high-risk risk high-reward weapon, it requires Skill and discipline to effectively use it.
A- Tier CS2 weapons
A-Tier weapons in CS2 are still highly effective, while not being the powerhouse of S-tier, they can still hold their own, and in the right player’s hands are capable of making round or even game-changing plays. These weapons offer versatility and a strong damage output, making them solid picks.
M4A4:
- Team CT
- Cost: $3,100
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 33
- Magazine: 30 / 90
- Fire Rate: 666 RPM
The high-capacity, reliable CT CS2 gun, perfect for tight chokepoints and sustained firefights, features a higher-capacity magazine than its sister rifle, the M4A1, making it the go-to choice for site anchors.
FAMAS:
- Team CT
- Cost: $2,050
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 30
- Magazine: 25 / 90
- Fire Rate: 666 RPM
A budget-friendly CT rifle, good for when your funds are low but you still want to put up a fight on the defence, effective and close to mid-range engagements, keeping you in the fight even when on the back foot.
Galil AR:
- Team T
- Cost: $1,800
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 30
- Magazine: 35 / 90
- Fire Rate: 666 RPM
Affordable, reliable, with a solid spray pattern and entry potential, this is a strong alternative to the AK-47 when you’re on a budget or low on funds, looking to make an impactful entry.
Tec-9:
- Team T
- Cost: $500
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 33
- Magazine: 18 / 90
A close-range T side pistol, the low cost and high impact make this a deadly force on eco rounds. It excels in aggressive plays and rushes due to the low movement inaccuracy.
Five-SeveN:
- Team: CT
- Cost: $500
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 32
- Magazine: 20 / 100
Accurate, high armour penetration CT pistol with the ability to one tap headshot at close range, ideal for still being able to hold down any close position and give yourself a fighting chance against a better buy.
MP9:
- Team: CT
- Cost: $1,250
- Kill Award: $600
- Damage: 26
- Magazine: 30 / 120
- Fire Rate: 857 RPM
The most iconic anti-eco CT SMG, this high-fire-rate, low-cost SMG makes mowing through unarmored T’s not only easy but enjoyable. Not to mention the high kill reward for each unsuspecting T you kill with this CS2 gun.
MAC-10:
- Team: T
- Cost: $1,050
- Kill Award: $600
- Damage: 29
- Magazine: 30 / 100
- Fire Rate: 800 RPM
Much like the MP9, the MAC-10 has all the same strengths, giving a low-buy Terrorist side the ability to rush out against an unarmored CT hold. Or for flying around trying to find the stack of echoing CTs.
SSG 08:
- Team CT & T
- Cost: $1,700
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 88
- Magazine: 10 / 90
Lightweight sniper rifle, with a massive damage output. Enabling you to stay light on your feet with aggressive peeks, dealing massive damage before your enemy can even react.
Glock-18:
- Team T
- Cost: $200
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 28
- Magazine: 20 / 120
The Glock-18. This is the standard T pistol, which makes every round free. Your reliable postol round allows you to move and shoot accurately, and you can switch to burst fire for those close-range firefights.
USP-S:
- Team: CT
- Cost: $200
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 35
- Magazine: 12 / 24
The suppressed CT Pistol, the more desired pistol for pistol rounds, boasts excellent accuracy and will reward the smarter CT with good positioning and a killer aim.
B-Tier CS2 weapons
B-Tier weapons in CS2 are still a viable choice; they can perform well in specific situations and scenarios. They often fill niche roles and provide situational advantages. These could also just be the budget-friendly option when your funds are running low.
SG 553:
- Team: T
- Cost: $3,000
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 30
- Magazine: 30 / 90
This is a scoped T rifle that allows you to aim down sights and fight with high accuracy; however, it has a difficult spray pattern, making it mainly viable for single-shot engagements. Coming in at a higher price point than the more popular AK-47
AUG:
- Team: CT
- Cost: $3,300
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 28
- Magazine: 30 / 90
- Fire Rate: 600 RPM
CT-scoped rifle, with a manageable recoil and precise accuracy. All this comes at a high cost and is not usually the financially responsible choice for a struggling CT side, but it is still very viable in gunfights.
Nova:
- Team: CT & T
- Cost: $1,050
- Kill Award: $900
- Damage: 26
- Magazine: 8 / 32
A pump-action shotgun where every shot counts. This is a serious damage weapon, capable of devastating enemies at close range, giving massive kill rewards for every enemy taken out. This falls off massively, however, with any sort of range.
Dual Berettas:
- Team: CT & T
- Cost: $300
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 38
- Magazine: 30 / 120
Dual-wielding pistols makes you a force to be reckoned with. These pistols have a high rate of fire, which is effective for spraying, particularly if used as an upgraded pistol for pistol rounds. We often see this as a popular choice even in pro play, but its low armour penetration leaves a lot to be desired against armour.
SCAR-20:
- Team CT
- Cost: $5,000
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 80
- Magazine: 20 / 90
Auto-sniper for the CT side. This weapon boasts extremely high damage and accuracy when equipped with a scope. Capable of holding down long sightlines solo, but comes at an extremely high cost that usually cannot be justified.
G3SG1:
- Team T
- Cost: $5,000
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 80
- Magazine: 20 / 90
Much like the SCAR-20, the G3SG1 is the auto sniper for the T side. Having all the same benefits, but very situational, as it is slow and hard to attack a site with, pick your positioning carefully, and it can still do some damage.
XM1014:
- Team CT
- Cost: $2,000
- Kill Award: $900
- Damage: 20 × pellets
- Magazine: 7 / 32
- Fire Rate: 171 RPM
Semi-automatic shotgun with extremely fast follow-up shots, able to withstand a rush from multiple terrorists, excellent for holding those tight angles, but again falls off at any range. With a higher cost than other shotguns, this is a high-risk, high-reward weapon.
MAG-7:
- Team T
- Cost: $1,300
- Kill Award: $900
- Damage: 30 × pellets
- Magazine: 5 / 32
A close-range shotgun is probably more useful for the CT side. It comes with slightly more serious damage than some of the other shotguns; still, on the budget side, it’s a good situation gun to buy for those close fights and tight corners.
P250:
- Team: CT & T
- Cost: $300
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 38
- Magazine: 13 / 26
The P250 was once an essential pistol to have as a secondary, but since some CS2 updates, it has fallen out of favor. It remains a reliable and affordable pistol to use with all rounds, but is more commonly used as an alternative to the Glock-18 for pistol rounds. This is due to the 1 tap potential against unarmoured CTs.
C-Tier CS2 weapons
Most of the CS2 guns in C-Tier are not going to be your first choice; they are either highly situational or are more of a meme choice. You will rarely ever see these guns used in professional play, but you may pick one up in your casual matchmaking game.
CZ-75 Auto:
- Team: CT & T
- Cost: $500
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 31
- Magazine: 12 / 24
- Fire Rate: 600 RPM
This automatic pistol has undergone numerous changes over the years, but is more commonly known as the one-and-done gun, as it has a very low magazine capacity but a high firing rate, typically capable of securing one shot but no more after.
P90:
- Team: CT & T
- Cost: $2,350
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 26
- Magazine: 50 / 100
- Fire Rate: 857 RPM
A High-capacity SMG, used mainly for spraying and mobility, but it has a low damage output and a lower kill reward than other SMGs. Most commonly used in lower ranks for its ease of use, but when faced against any rifle, you will fall short. It’s hard to make the choice to buy this high-priced SMG when you can get the same for much less in other SMGs
MP7:
- Team: CT & T
- Cost: $1,500
- Kill Award: $600
- Damage: 29
- Magazine: 30 / 120
- Fire Rate: 750 RPM
A very balanced SMG, it doesn’t have any real notable points to stand out above the rest. It’s a solid SMG, but you will always find reasons to buy others on force buys or anti-ecos. Worth picking up over a pistol, but not over other SMGs.
PP-Bizon:
- Team CT & T
- Cost: $1,400
- Kill Award: $600
- Damage: 27
- Magazine: 64 / 120
- Fire Rate: 750 RPM
The largest magazine you’ll see on an SMG, the PP-Bizon has the ability to keep up the suppressive fire, but the damage feels more like shooting a pellet gun; unless they’re unarmoured, you might as well not shoot at all.
PP-Bizon:
- Team CT & T
- Cost: $1,400
- Kill Award: $600
- Damage: 27
- Magazine: 64 / 120
- Fire Rate: 750 RPM
Pump action shotgun for the T side, lethal up close in those tight corners you need to clear with a high damage; however, it’s very close to shoot, so if you don’t hit your shot, then you will most likely not get the chance for another
UMP-45:
- Tea: CT & T
- Cost: $1,200
- Kill Award: $600
- Damage: 35
- Magazine: 25 / 100
- Fire Rate: 666 RPM
A mid-tier SMG that has good armor penetration but a slow fire rate and is not effective at range, making it a bad choice in most situations. This will be effective at close range, but it makes more sense to opt for one of the superior SMGs in this case.
P2000:
- Team: CT
- Cost: $200
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 35
- Magazine: 13 / 26
Another standard CT pistol, which in every way is just worse than the USP except for magazine capacity, choosing this gun feels like playing with a disadvantage for no reason. It will still have 1 tap headshot and is viable for pistol rounds, but hard to choose over the USP.
MP5:
- Team: CT
- Cost: $1,500
- Kill Award: $600
- Damage: 27
- Magazine: 30 / 120
- Fire Rate: 750 RPM
The only suppressed SMG for CTs, this cheap, low-damage SMG can be useful for shooting through smokes with no markers on the map or stealthy pushes where they won’t immediately know you’re there. Like many other SMGs, it has no real viable use at any range.
D-Tier CS2 weapons
D-Tier CS2 weapons are almost entirely useless in-game. You will rarely ever see them even in matchmaking, but if you do, they are ones to avoid picking up. They will rarely provide any real value to your team, and you may even make some enemies just by holding one.
R8 Revolver:
- Team: CT & T
- Cost: $600
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 86
- Magazine: 8 / 8
A very high damage pistol that, on paper, looks like the ideal gun, but it has a feature that no other gun has: it has a delayed shot, so when you click it will shoot after a second. This has left it unused by the majority of people, who simply cannot use a gun that won’t shoot when you click in a hitscan game.
M249:
- Team: CT & T
- Cost: $5,200
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 32
- Magazine: 100 / 200
- Fire Rate: 750 RPM
A light machine gun with a huge magazine, but you are extremely slow. This is the most expensive gun in the game, and it has very little upside. The recoil is uncontrollable, and you are left a sitting duck, unable to move.
Negev:
- Team: CT & T
- Cost: $1,700
- Kill Award: $300
- Damage: 35
- Magazine: 150 / 300
- Fire Rate: 800 RPM
A Heavy machine gun with an absurdly large magazine, while we have seen this used it’s normally due to the low cost and more casual games for fun. There is no real reason to use this in competitive matches, as you move incredibly slowly and will often find yourself dead within seconds of shooting.
Ask The Escapist
The AK-47 and AWP are generally considered the best weapons in CS2. While the AK-47 would edge out the AWP by its versatility, it dominates the T-side due to its high damage and one-shot headshot potential.
Yes, as we’ve seen over the years, the CS2 developers will make changes to the guns based on community feedback. For example, back in 2013, the CZ-75 would probably be considered A-tier, but after numerous “nerfs,” it has been relegated to C-tier.
CS2 weapons are ranked based on a combination of factors such as damage, accuracy, fire rate, recoil control, versatility, usability, and if it will have impact on your game. S-tier weapons are game-changing, while lower-tier weapons are going to be more situational and not affect the game as much.
Yes, absolutely! SMGs are very viable and often the perfect choice for those low-economy rounds or anti-eco scenarios. Their high mobility and fast fire rate will make short work of unarmored opponents.
