The Walking Dead has been dragged into the world of Dead by Daylight, with two of the franchises most recognisable faces Rick and Michonne, making their debut in the fog. Well, three technically, as Daryl is also an alternate skin for Rick. They’ve survived many, many zombies, but now it’s time to see how they stack up against the Entity’s many minions.

Both characters come with a new set of perks for players to understand, and there are definitely some unique options here. From being able to quickly jump back up after being downed to even constructing makeshift Pallets, there is a lot to get your head around. Here’s each character’s perks and how we think they are best used.
The Escapist recaps
- The Walking Dead Chapter of DBD launched on July 29, 2025.
- It features both Rick and Michonne Grimes, two of the franchise’s most recognisable faces
- Darryl is also a playable survivor, though he is an alternate skin for Rick.
- Michonne’s Conviction perk is a very unique new perk that will shake up the survivor meta.
- Rick can build temporary Pallets, which is the first for the game.
Rick Grimes Perks
- Apocalyptic Ingenuity
After unlocking and rummaging through a number of Chests, gain the ability to create a Fragile Pallet in place of a Broken Pallet. Perk - Come and Get Me!
After Unhooking a Survivor, while crouched and idle you may use an Ability to make all nearby injured and dying Survivors completely silent and hide their Pools of Blood. In exchange, you’ll scream and briefly reveal your Aura to the Killer. - Teamwork: Toughen Up!
When another nearby Survivor Pallet stuns or blinds the Killer while you’re injured, your Grunts of Pain, Scratch Marks, and Pools of Blood will be completely reduced for a duration.
Rick Grimes Perk Analysis
Rick’s perks are generally alright, but at the very least, interesting. They play into the survival aspects of The Walking Dead, and the character’s protector traits.
Apocalyptic Ingenuity could be strong, but it’s also annoying to activate and get use out of. You activate the perk by finding two chests or spending time rummaging through one. After this, you can go to a spot where a pallet has previously been destroyed, and allow you to create a weak pallet (which act like party pallets in the Twisted Masquerade.)
This can come in incredibly useful in the right chases, and circumstances. That said, you need Pallets to have been used, and to spend time getting the resources to build so it takes time. It’s definitely Rick’s most interesting perk though, and has potential.
Come and Get Me! is a potentially good perk for both carry players and those who love to help their team out, but you need to take it knowing what you’re putting yourself in for. When crouched and not moving, you can activate a shout, making the killer aware of your presence, while your injured friends become silent.
This is great for stopping someone getting tunnelled, but obviously, you’re putting yourself in danger.
Teamwork: Toughen Up! Works somewhat in the opposite way, but it’s a bit weird to activate and you probably won’t often get tons of value here.

Michonne Grimes Perks
- Conviction
Conviction activates after healing a Survivor. While in the Dying State with recovery progress underway, gain the ability to instantly recover. You will become Broken and return to the Dying State after a duration. - Last Stand
After spending time in the Killer’s Terror Radius outside of a chase, Fast-Vault while near the Killer to stun them for a duration. This Perk then goes on cooldown. - Teamwork: Throwdown
Successfully pallet stun a Killer to give nearby injured Survivors Endurance for a duration, revealing the Killer’s Aura to them.
Michonne Perks Analysis
In terms of perks Michonne has some really unique ones that have the potential to be very strong. That said, they are also quite odd and require you to build around entirely, so these aren’t perks you will set and forget.
Michonne has two perks that really jump out as particularly powerful. The first is Conviction. After healing a survivor, it allows you to, when down, instantly recover after getting your recovery bar to 25%. You can then run away for 30 seconds, after which you will go back to the downed state. This is a really interesting perk that opens up a lot of shenanigans.
If you’re downed and then the killer goes around trying to slug other players, it allows you to get up and move, or even potentially get tasks done like unhooking survivors or finishing that Generator that was just about to be finished. This is a real pain for killers who now have to worry about players they just downed getting up and moving somewhere else entirely.
Last Stand is another potentially strong perk that is also quite unique. After spending a minute in the Killer’s Aura, you get a one use ability to be able to vault into a killer and stun them. This is exceptionally powerful to potentially help someone else who is getting chased, or double back on yourself against a killer.
That said, it’s a bit awkward to activate, and the opportunity to use it well may not come up in a match. If you’re smart and fortunate, this could potentially swing a chase and even a game, but it’s definitely a specific perk you’ll have to jump through hoops to activate.
Teamwork: Throwdown is definitely Michonne’s most straight forward perk, but also her weakest. It could maybe come into use now and again, but likely isn’t worth wasting a slot for.

Dead by Daylight is overrun by licenced characters, and it’s better for it. To illustrate that, before the Walking Dead Chapter, Five Nights at Freddy’s had come to the game.
