Marathon Server Slam beta: Dates, start times, rewards, and what to expect

Bungie’s Marathon Server Slam is a limited-time open preview designed to stress-test servers and give players a slice of the Marathon experience before launch. It began yesterday (February 26) and runs until March 2, 2026 (10 AM PT) on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with cross-play and cross-save enabled.

We recommend treating this weekend like a focused checklist. You’ll get the most value by securing the carry-over rewards early, then using the remaining time to learn extraction flow, routes, and how the game feels with your preferred team setup.

The Escapist recaps

  • The Marathon Server Slam Beta runs from Feb. 26, 2026 (10 AM PT) to Mar. 2, 2026 (10 AM PT), and the schedule is fixed across regions once converted to local time.
  • Progress will reset, but earned rewards carry over at launch, including Arrival Caches and Twitch Drops.
  • The Server Slam build includes two zones, five factions (early contracts), five Runner shells plus Rook, and key systems like cross-play, cross-save, and proximity chat.
  • Since Server Slam is explicitly a server stress test, you should expect occasional queues, disconnects, or short downtime windows while Bungie monitors load and performance.

Marathon Server Slam dates and start time

Bungie’s Marathon Server Slam is now live, running from February 26, 2026, at 10 AM PT through March 2, 2026, at 10 AM PT. We recommend double-checking the end time in your local time zone now, since this window is tied to Pacific Time, and the cutoff can arrive quickly if your goal is to hit the reward milestones.

The Marathon release date is March 5, 2026. The Server Slam is happening right ahead of that date, so if this stress test holds up, you can expect the full release to arrive a couple of days after the event wraps.

How to join the Marathon Server Slam

The Marathon Server Slam is available now on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Bungie confirmed there was no preload for this test window, so downloads only opened once the event went live, and the first-wave rush can still slow storefront pages down.

If the store page stalls or the download crawls, give it a few minutes and retry instead of spamming the refresh. You’ll also want enough free storage before you start, since installs and updates can get messy when everyone’s downloading the game at the same time.

PlayStation 5

  • Download from the PlayStation Store during the event window
  • Bungie states that no PS Plus is required for Server Slam participation

Xbox Series X|S

  • Download from the Microsoft Store during the event window
  • Bungie revealed that no Xbox Game Pass membership is required for Server Slam participation

Steam (PC)

  • Find Marathon on Steam during the event window
  • Install, launch, sign in
  • Check PC requirements before you commit to the download (listed below)

Marathon PC system requirements (Steam)

If you’re playing Server Slam on PC, the good news is the Marathon system requirements aren’t especially demanding for a modern shooter. Most mid-range setups should be fine, and we’d prioritize a stable frame rate and clean input over chasing ultra settings, since extraction fights punish stutters more than slightly softer visuals.

Marathon Server Slam rewards and what carries over

Bungie’s rule set for Marathon Server Slam is simple: progression does not carry over, but earned rewards do. They are delivered at launch via the in-game mailbox, and they may roll out over time. You should prioritize the reward steps early, since longer queues and instability can hit later in the weekend. This way, you’ll still have time to collect all the rewards listed below.

Server Slam also includes Twitch Drops

Bungie is running five Twitch Drops during Server Slam, and they’re all earned through simple watch time. Try to link your Bungie and Twitch accounts first, then keep a stream running in the background while you’re downloading, sitting in queues, or taking a break, so the rewards progress even when you’re not in a match.

Here’s the full Twitch Drops list for Server Slam, with the required watch time for each reward:

  • Twitch Sponsored Kit — 1 hour
  • Profile Emblem: SMILEYworm — 1 hour
  • Profile Background: WEAVEworm — 2 hours
  • Weapon Sticker: GLOWworm — 3 hours
  • Weapon Skin (Style): HMG Twitch Engine — 4 hours

What to expect during the Server Slam

Server Slam is a curated slice of Marathon’s launch experience. You’ll get five of the six Runner shells, plus Rook, so we recommend testing a few setups early and settling on one comfort pick for the rest of the weekend. Solo and crew play are both supported.

The big systems under the microscope are proximity chat and cross-play across Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. You can coordinate with your squad, but you’ll also run into other crews and decide whether to talk, deal, or disengage.

Because this is a server stress test, you can expect longer queues and occasional instability. If things get rough, it usually pays to take a short break, then come back during quieter hours while keeping reward goals in mind.
