While we were expecting interest to pick up in Battlefield 6 with its first Season 1 content drop, we weren’t entirely expecting the free-to-play Battle Royale mode, Battlefield 6 Redsec to arrive at the same time until EA announced it a day before.
It’s not the first time the publisher has shadow-dropped a Battle Royale (it worked out pretty well for Apex Legends), but from early Redsec’s early Steam player count numbers, it certainly appears to have done well.
Battlefield Redsec is currently sitting in sixth place on Steam for top sellers, according to SteamDB, but there’s no dedicated player number graph just yet.
Still, its release has seen Battlefield 6 climb to 549,766 in a 24-hour period. That’s still some way off from launch, but that’s the kind of big number a lot of shooters would love to have for a seasonal drop, Battle Royale or not.
The game is currently number 2 for daily active users, top for top sellers, and number 7 for wishlists, suggesting it’s off to a very good start.
As always, SteamDB’s data is just that – it’s Steam numbers. We don’t yet know how successful Battlefield 6 Redsec has been on, say, EA’s own launcher, PS5, or Xbox Series S and X, and given it’s free-to-play, there’s every chance it’s off to an absolute stormer.
Expect EA to be very public about its numbers if it did well, but for now, consider it promising.
