Windrose: Struggling with 15 Men on a Dead Man’s Chest? Here’s a foolproof way to beat it first time

There’s a lot of love for Windrose right now. it’s player count is going through the roof and the devs have done a fine job bringing their pirate survival game to life.

Most survival games tend to launch in Early Access and then peter out – I’m looking at you Sons of the Forest and friends, but the theme of Windrose gives it a huge advantage if the content keeps coming.

It’s not easy to get started, though – I don’t know how many dodos or boars ripping you to shreds time and time again it took you before you started to get fed up of dying, but when it comes to the first real quest you stumble across, things get super tough. But there is a way to beat it fairly easily. It’s kind of cheesing it, but with enough leeway that you don’t feel too bad. Let’s have a look.

How to easily complete 15 men on a Dead Man’s Chest

Firstly, to gain access to the quest, you need to find the skeleton next to a shipwreck on the beach close to your starting point. If you haven’t ventured out at night, things get nastier, so it’s best to do all your exploring in daylight hours early on. Once you have located that and opened the Quest, a new marker will appear in the jungle not too far away.

I’d advise not heading there immediately, though, as you will get wiped out. Spend a little time completing the tutorial, so at least you have a saber and maybe kill a few boars and sows if you can, so you can upgrade your clothing for better armor.

If you find the cave by heading up from the beach, you can also mine copper and refine that into ingots and then use those to upgrade your sabre to give it more bite. All these things will come in handy

Build a fence

Now. let’s talk about the mini cheat.

In case you haven’t discovered it yet, animals such as boars, but also baddies like The Drowned can’t attack you through a fence, so what you are going to do is chop down a few trees and collect the wood.

Head to the area marked on your map, and you will see four skeletons. To attempt the Quest you need to dig in the point between them all and touch the chest you discover, but don’t do that yet.

Instead, build a circular fence, one block high, around the skeletons, then where you need to dig the pit. Check out the image above if you need guidance.

You can jump over this fence, but the enemies cannot.

Dig the hole and touch the chest, which will immediately see you attached by four Level 2 Drowned. If you die at any point, the quest resets and you will have to do it again, even if you have killed three of the four. So we don’t want that.

Jump Free Willy, jump

As soon as the quest starts, run and leap to the other side of the fence. The Drowned will follow you, but can’t escape where you have kettled them in. They can, however, throw things at you that will hurt a lot, so run right up to the fence, and they will approach it – they only throw from further back. From there, just hack and slash them until they are dead. It should only take a few seconds if you have upgraded your sable. When they are all dead, jump back in and examine the chest to complete the Quest and get the reward.
