- Grace’s style of play will be more horror-oriented, while Leon’s will be action-focused.
- Multiple difficulty modes were confirmed, with key features like limited autosaves and the Ink Ribbon save system popping up in Standard (Classic).
- Unfortunately for folks wondering if Ada is in Resident Evil Requiem, the beloved character didn’t make an appearance in the showcase, despite rumours indicating that she might pop up.
- Collaborations for Requiem were highlighted, along with key merchandise. Limited-run watches will be available, along with other trinkets like an Amiibo, figurines, and a themed controller.
Timeline and gameplay details
The Requiem showcase kicked off with a look at the difference in gameplay styles for the dual protagonists, Grace and Leon.
Leon’s side of the game will be more action-oriented, with heavier gunplay and combat, making use of the veteran’s fighting experience. Based on the Resident Evil Requiem gameplay shown, there’ll also be plenty of one-liners and quips.
This is post-Resident Evil 6 Leon, so he’ll still be working as a DSO agent when fans meet him in Requiem.
In contrast, Grace’s side of Requiem will be more of a classic survival horror experience, potentially with some psychological elements. Resources will be scarcer, enemies will be scarier, and Grace may need to run and hide instead of facing them head-on.
One of the best details highlighted in the showcase was the variety of enemies that replicate their behaviours from when they were alive. An example of a custodian was given; despite being undead, she can be seen furiously scrubbing and cleaning the facilities, evidently disgusted by the mess.
Additionally, crafting will be taking on a new form in Requiem, with players needing to gather up infected blood to craft crucial items throughout their run, like specialized injectors. The showcase referenced the crafting style being akin to Resident Evil 2.
Plenty of options for players
Seasoned Resident Evil fans will be pleased to know that there are multiple difficulty modes on offer with Requiem. The showcase mentioned the following difficulties:
- Casual. A more relaxed mode, ideal for players who are more interested in the story instead of intense gameplay.
- Standard (Modern). A “balanced” mode, referenced as being similar to the standard difficulty in modern Resident Evil games.
- Standard (Classic). A traditional mode, akin to the old-school Resident Evil games, with limited autosaves and manual saves that require Ink Ribbon items.
On top of this, players will be able to toggle between first-person and third-person perspectives for both Leon and Grace individually. If they want to play Grace’s segments in first-person but Leon’s in third-person, for example, this is entirely possible.
Key Resident Evil Requiem collaborations
Several key collaborations were discussed in-depth during the showcase, including Leon’s Porsche, along with two unique watches from Hamilton. There’s a watch for Leon and a watch for Grace, both inspired by their respective characters.
Some interesting merchandise items were referenced in the showcase, too, like protagonist figurines, a Nintendo Switch 2 pro controller, and, as a series-first, an Amiibo. The details about said Amiibo were not revealed.
With two intriguing styles of play, an entirely refreshed crafting system revolving around infected blood, and a seemingly dark, horrific story, Requiem is looking like a dream for survival horror lovers. Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27, 2026.
Ask The Escapist
While it’s hard to say with certainty pre-launch, it appears that Ada will not be in Requiem, based on the January 15 showcase.
Resident Evil Requiem has dual protagonists – Grace Ashcroft and Leon Kennedy. The game will switch between the two as the story unfolds.
Based on the difficulty modes shown in the January 15 showcase for Requiem, the upcoming zombie game should pose a good level of difficulty, with modes like Standard (Classic) featuring limited saves and items.
While it doesn’t appear to be a prerequisite to play Resident Evil Village before the Requiem release date, it’s worth doing so anyway to get a feel for the style of play and tone that modern Resident Evil games have.
