Bloodroots is a top-down action platformer from Paper Cult. It’s set in the self-described “Weird West” and follows your character Mr. Wolf on a bloody rampage to seek vengeance against the band of outlaws that betrayed him, “The Blood Beasts.”

Ultimately, this game embodies the old adage “less is more.” Despite some platforming hiccups, its level of challenge feels rooted in mastery of its three-button combat. Its deceptively simple controls and understated story reveal layers of depth over the roughly 8-hour campaign, and it ends up being a fun and challenging experience.
