To celebrate Canada Day we are giving you eight great Canadian actors. Some are surprising and some are not so much, so prepare yourself to possibly get amazed. In the spirit of the day, sorry.

Will Arnett, who you may recall from Arrested Development was born in Toronto, Ontario. This talented comedic actor plays everyone’s favorite bad magician in the popular television series Arrested Development.

Who knew that everyone’s favorite S.H.I.E.L.D. agent was Canadian? Cobie Smulders hails from Vancouver, British Columbia. This Canadian started in modelling, then took the acting world by surprise with her work on television and the big screen.

Nathan Fillian, a native of the Canadian state province Alberta, started his career in the Canadian TV movie Ordeal in the Arctic. Since his acting debut in 1993 he has appeared in nineteen films and twenty television series. His most popular role has to be Malcolm Reynolds in the series Firefly.

Jewel Staite, another Firefly alum, calls British Columbia home. She got her start on Canadian television, she’s since become quite the global personality. She may be best known for her role of Kaylee Frye in Firefly but few know that she was also in the film adaptation of the series Serenity.

In the reboot of the Star Trek franchise we have a very high ranking Canadian. Bruce Greenwood has taken on the mantle of Captain Pike, a pretty important role in the Star Trek universe. In his long career he has starred in such diverse films as The Malibu Bikini Shop and the Atom Egoyan masterpiece Sweet Hereafter.

Ellen Page calls Halifax, Nova Scotia home. This amazing actor got her start on Canadian television in Pit Pony and Trailer Park Boys. She really came into the public eye with her portrayal of the title character in the indie blockbuster Juno.

Ryan Gosling, from London, Ontario, made his name in some of the best films of the past decade. His role in the 2001 film The Believer turned many a head and brought some serious credibility. He’s since become the muse for the Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn in Drive and Only God Forgives.

Last but not least we give you the most popular Canadian in the history of popularity and Canadia. Justin Bieber emerged into this world in London, Ontario, he’s since become the most beloved celebrity throughout the world. He’s like The Beatles of the 21st century.
