8 Patriotic Games to Play This Weekend

This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

This Monday we (US Citizens) celebrate our Independence Day by having cookouts, setting off fireworks and having parades. But why celebrate with others when you can play some inspirational games instead?

Here’s a list of 8 games to play and get your patriotic groove on at the sametime.

Bioshock Infinite

Aside from being simply a fun game to play, Bioshock Infinite‘s storyline is neck deep in United States Historical subject matter from the moment you enter Columbia. Although in the world you’re entering, our founding father’s aren’t the heroes of our nation, rather the tyrants that destroyed what our country was supposed to be. They believe this so much that John Wilkes Booth is the hero they revere. Of course, you’re the guy defiling their holy ground and causing mayhem, and rightfully so. I mean, there’s a George Washington Sentry robot.

Duke Nukem

Okay, look, I’m not a super fan of this game as it stands against other FPS titles. However, one cannot ignore just how much of the ol’ USA is stamped throughout playing this game. If there’s one guy in a video game that seems to represent both the good and bad that our country has to offer, it’s Duke Nukem.

Wolfenstein: The New Order

Wolfenstein: The New Order has a slightly different take on history as the Nazi’s have gained technology that causes them to utterly dominate the battlefield like no other. You’re a member of a resistance team that’s trying to topple this regime and bring down the Nazi’s once and for all. Also, Moon Nazi’s. That is all.

Grand Theft Auto IV

Grand Theft Auto IV‘s crazy amount of violence and law-breaking isn’t the first game you’d think of when it comes to a game being “patriotic”. However, going by the storyline, Niko Bellic really does seem to lead the American Dream in his own way. He arrives from the old country via a boat to find work and a lifestyle that’s far better than what he could have had in his home country and heard wondrous praise of what can be found here.

Homefront: The Revolution

Imagine a world where North Korea becomes the most powerful capitalist nation on the planet. They’re powerful enough that after years of fighting in our most favorite area, the Middle East, the economy of the USA is on the verge of defaulting on their debt to the Korean nation. Of course, they use this as a pretext to invade and occupy us. You take on the role as one of the resistance fighters who are trying to get the Korean People’s Army out of here, ala Red Dawn style. Just remember not to shout out “Wolverines!”. It’s not that story.

Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3

Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3‘s story is your typical one. The Soviets invent a time machine to go back assassinate Albert Einstein before he can make his mark on history. After this change, they return and the Soviets have conquered almost all of Europe and Japan is rampaging across the Pacific and just attacking anyone that doesn’t worship their Emperor. Be the Allies (you can be the Soviets or Japanese too, you heathens) and push back these forces before they dominate the world.

Saint’s Row IV

Save the world, become the President of the United States, it’s all in a day’s work. That is until aliens invade and abduct all of the worlds leaders including you and your VP, Benjamin motherf^&king King! Let’s not forget the DLC weapon that’s available in the game called “Murica” and just how umm.. “patriotic” it is when you use it.

BroForce

You take on the role of a “Brommando”, your typical action hero from the 80’s-90’s that use weapons with seemingly endless clips of ammo and lots of action in an “A-Team” styled BroForce. In fact you’ll see some similar sounding names to some of the most famous of these stars in the game such as Rambro, Brobocop, and B. A. Broracus. If you’re a fan of these action stars and enjoy playing a 2D side-scroller with destructible environments and the over-usage of the term “Bro”. This game’s for you.
