For all the recent complaining about Steam Early Access, there are some damn good games out there. Here’s why you should join the crowds who love it.

Next Car Game is all about inflicting as much damage on your opponents as possible. The good people at Bugbear saw a genre that needed some attention and they made this demolition derby racer. Make sure to buckle up because this is a bumpy ride if you do it right.

At this point everybody and their brother has heard of DayZ. From its lowly beginnings as a mod for ArmA II to it’s domination of Steam Early Access they’ve been a definite force to be reckoned with. Not only are you on the hunt for, or on the run from, zombies and other players. This game will definitely let you explore your dark side as force others to, for example, drink bleach.

Have you ever wanted to work for NASA in the good old days when it still had some sort of plan to go into outer space? Well then let me introduce you to Kerbal Space Program, a game dedicated to you creating your own space program. But this one doesn’t rely on congress for funding so plan on playing for quite a while.

In Rust the only goal is to survive. I don’t know what exactly caused this genre to explode but it most definitely has blown up. Maybe everyone is planning for the apocalypse and these are just training sims. With that in mind I’ll be in my bunker playing Rust.

In Project Zomboid the world is your sandbox. Stay alive for as long as possible, but we both know that you’re going to die like the rest of them. See how you’ll make your way to the great beyond.

Space Engineers sets you free in space. Not in a bad Gravity way but in a free roaming sandbox way. We’ve had our fair share of sandbox games, but Space Engineers puts that genre in a new box when they turn you loose to create whatever spaceship you will.

From The Fun Pimps comes the great game 7 Days to Die. Another survival sandbox game that has racked up quite the following. For a game that is joining the ranks of some serious survival sandboxy fun they’ve quite a name for themselves. In 7 Days to Die you’re supposed to scavenge your way through the wastes. From the way it sounds it may be the happy medium between Minecraft and Fallout.

Starbound is another survival sandbox game but this takes place on an abandoned planet in space. Because survival isn’t hard enough let’s put you on an alien landscape and hope that you survive. Actually, let’s be honest, no one is expecting you to live.
