Captain America 4 in the Works With The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Creator Writing

Marvel can do this all… century? After today’s conclusion of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+, Marvel has announced that a fourth Captain America film is coming with Malcolm Spellman, the head writer and creator of the series, co-writing the screenplay alongside Marvel regular Dalan Musson.

Details are scarce on what the new film will be about, let alone who will play Captain America, but the conclusion of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier heavily suggested that Anthony Mackie’s Falcon would be picking up the shield, so it may be him that launches into a new series of Cap films. With the critical and fan success of the show it makes sense that Disney would continue to ride with the actor. Of course, that doesn’t mean he’ll maintain the shield. The show, after all, was all about who was entitled to carry on the legacy and it’s possible the film will launch a new Cap or pluck him/her/them from somewhere else in the MCU.

Interestingly the Hollywood Reporter also notes that Chris Evans, who played Cap in the first three films and all the Avengers movies, is not confirmed to return, suggesting that he could at some point. The actor has said that he’s set the shield down for good and the end of Avengers: Endgame gave him a solid out, but rumors have spread that he’s been in talks with Marvel to return in some form.

Spellman put together one hell of a show, which successfully tackled powerful themes about America, race, and society in a way few superhero shows or films have been able to. Musson, meanwhile, delivered the screenplay for the fifth episode of the series, “Truth“, which is the best of a very strong set of six.

There’s no release date set and given Marvel’s already packed release schedule over the next few years it probably won’t be for a long time.
