Tom Hanks stars as Mister Rogers in a true(ish) story about a troubled journalist who finds his life changed (and maybe saved?) by the beloved children’s TV host. But beyond seeing America’s most-beloved human portrayed by its most-beloved living human, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood turns out to be a much deeper, more nuanced, more ambitious, and sometimes downright strange feature than the advertising has been letting on.
